The Society has established an Achievement Award to recognize outstanding contributions to the Society, a Paper Award for outstanding papers, and an Encouragement Award for authors of ambitious presentations that are expected to produce excellent results.

Award Regulations
(General Provisions)
Article 1: These regulations stipulate the awards given by the Japan Society of Geoinformatics.
(Establishment and Purpose of the Awards Committee)
Article 2: The Awards Committee shall be established to discuss the awards given by the Japan Society of Geoinformatics.
Article 3: The Awards Committee shall discuss the methods of soliciting and selecting nominees for the Japan Society of Geoinformatics Achievement Award (hereinafter referred to as the "Achievement Award"), the Japan Society of Geoinformatics Paper Award (hereinafter referred to as the "Paper Award"), and the Japan Society of Geoinformatics Encouragement Award (hereinafter referred to as the "Encouragement Award") as set forth in Articles 7 and onward.
(Composition of the Awards Committee)
Article 4: The Awards Committee shall be composed of the President, Vice-President, General Affairs Chair, Editor-in-Chief, and a few others appointed by the Chairman.
Article 5: The Chairperson shall serve as Chairperson.
(Convening the Awards Committee)
Article 6: The Chairperson shall convene the Awards Committee as necessary and hold meetings.
(Selection and Decision of the Achievement Award)
Article 7: The Achievement Award shall be established to honor those who have made outstanding contributions to the Japan Society of Geoinformatics.
Article 8: A maximum of one Achievement Award shall be awarded each year. If there is no corresponding awardee, there shall be no awardee.
Article 9: The Awards Committee shall consult and select candidates. The winner shall be decided after deliberation by the Board.
(Selection and Decision of the Paper Award)
Article 10: The Paper Award shall be awarded to the author of a particularly outstanding research paper from among those submitted to the Journal of the Japan Society of Geoinformatics.
2 Eligible recipients are editorials, reviews, systems/software developments, short reports, and notes published in the journal in the past three years excluding the year of the award.
Article 11 A few Paper Awards will be awarded each year. If there is no corresponding recipient, there will be no corresponding recipient.
Article 12 The editorial committee will select the Paper Award on behalf of the award committee and recommend it to the Board. The Board will decide the winner after deliberation.
(Selection and decision of the Encouragement Award)
Article 13 The Encouragement Award will be established for authors who present research at the Japan Society of Geoinformatics conferences and who are expected to produce excellent results.
2 Eligible recipients are oral and poster presentations given at conferences in the same year.
Article 14 A few Paper Awards will be awarded each year. If there is no corresponding recipient, there will be no corresponding recipient.
Article 15: The editorial committee will select the recipient of the Encouragement Award on behalf of the Awards Committee and recommend it to the Board of Trustees. The winner will be decided after deliberation by the Board.
(When the committee member is a candidate)
Article 16: If the committee member is a candidate for the Achievement Award, Paper Award, or Encouragement Award, the committee will not participate in the deliberation of the relevant award.
(Revision of regulations)
Article 17: Revision of these regulations must be approved by the Board.
Supplementary Provisions
1. Any matters not specified in these regulations will be determined by the Awards Committee Chair in consultation with the Committee and the Board.
2. These regulations will come into effect on June 17, 2021.
